Minstrel vs. Puppet screened at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Student Center on February 21, 2020 in celebration of Black History Month. After the film, Hannah Bonecutter gave a lecture presentation about the different societal issues highlighted throughout the film. Many of these issues were particular challenges that diverse women of color have to face on a regular basis, such as racism, physical superficiality versus natural beauty, wealth disparity, and objectification. Afterwards, Ms. Bonecutter facilitated an engaging discussion among the attendees that unpacked the characters in the film and the issues each one battled. During this event, the attendees worked together to brainstorm ideas for progression and problem-solving on these issues depicted in the film through art, academia, community programs, and more. This event was featured in the Gazette Chicago newspaper April 2020 edition.
